A new poppy display by the now famous ‘Ruddington Yarn Ninjas’ is among the ways our village is paying its respects this year to those who gave their lives to defend our country.
Adorning the railings in front of St Peter’s Church, near the War Memorial, the Ninjas have had a little extra help creating this one. Ninjas’ spokesperson Emma Scott {who provided the photos top and below left} explains: “We have over 100 poppies on the giant poppy all made by the yarn ninjas and members of the WI.”
A slightly reworked version of a helmeted soldier’s head has also returned as their pillar box ‘topper’ on Church Street for a second year running – and will remain on display during Ruddington Remembrance events this weekend.
Meantime, up on the Brookside Road area, Ainsley Burton aka ‘Creed’ has added to his portfolio of Ruddington graffiti art, old and new, with his latest garage door ‘remembrance’ design – his third to date.
The Ruddington and District Branch of the Royal British Legion holds its annual Parade and Service of Remembrance on Sunday 13th November 2022. Weather permitting, the usual procession of local organisations will march to the War Memorial before the service. The service then starts at 10.45am and will include prayers, hymns and the laying of wreaths at the War Memorial. The Last Post will be played at 11am, followed by a two minute silence. Afterwards, a Remembrance Service will take place inside St Peter’s Church, to which everyone is invited.
Please note that on Friday November 11th – ‘Armistice Day’ itself – there is an additional short service held at the War Memorial to mark the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.
The Memorial commemorates the eighty nine men and one woman from Ruddington killed in war. You can read more >>HERE<<.
